Kenya Safari Cost 2027: What a Safari Really Costs, From Budget to Luxury
Real per-person prices from $200 a day on a shared group departure to more than $1,000 a day at a luxury camp, plus every fee that gets left off the quote.

Interior of a luxury safari tent with a large bed, private wooden deck and wine, representing the top tier of Kenya safari cost in 2027.
Sekenani Gate. 6:10am. The first of July, and a family of four holds a printed quote at the Masai Mara ticket window. The price on the page was fair. It also said nothing about park fees. The clerk’s number was $500 for the day: $200 for each parent and $50 for each child, because the high season rate starts on 1st July. The ticket then runs out after 12 hours. That is Kenya safari cost in miniature: the headline number is real, and the number you actually pay is a different one.
We’re Afrikan Accent Adventures, a Nairobi-based safari operator, and we’ve been running Kenya safaris for more than a decade. The pattern repeats every season. Two quotes arrive for what looks like the same seven-day Kenya safari. They sit well over a thousand dollars apart and neither is lying. One includes the park fees and the other leaves them out. One has the flights built in and the other has a six-hour drive instead.
Kenya makes this harder than most countries. The Masai Mara charges non-resident adults $100 a day from January to June and $200 a day from July to December. A Kenya Wildlife Service park such as Amboseli charges $90. The Mara ticket lasts 12 hours, not 24. None of that shows up in a headline price unless someone puts it there.
So, this guide does what most price pages won’t. It uses live per-person prices from our own safari pages and works out the cost per day. It names the fees that sit outside the quote and says where we’d spend and where we’d save. Our position is simple: the cheapest honest multi-day Kenya safari starts at about $200 per person per day. Anything quoted below that is leaving something out.
| QUICK ANSWER | How much does a safari in Kenya cost per person in 2027? A Kenya safari costs about $200 per person per day on a shared group departure and $280 to $450 on a mid-range private trip. Luxury and flying safaris run $415 to over $1,000 a day. Prices are per person sharing in USD. Park fees add $80 to $200 a day where excluded. |

AT A GLANCE:
- Cheapest live safari: the Half-Day Nairobi National Park Game Drive, from $25 per person. The cheapest multi-day option is the 3 Days Masai Mara book-a-seat at Osero Camp, from $650.
- Mid-range range: $280 to $450 per person per day, from the 6-Day Sopa Lodges safari to the 4-Day Mtito Safari Camp Road safari.
- Luxury and flying range: $415 to $1,033 per person per day, from the 6-Day Naivasha and Masai Mara flying safari to the 12-Day Northern Kenya safari.
- Masai Mara park fee: $100 per adult per day January to June, $200 July to December, valid for 12 hours.
- Amboseli and Lake Nakuru Park fee: $90 per adult per day, $45 per child, under the Kenya Wildlife Service tariff in force since 1st October 2025.
- Price basis: per person sharing a room, in US dollars, from the live pages at afrikanaccentadventures.com/safaris.
- Cheapest time: January to June for the lower Masai Mara fee, with April and May the lowest of all.
- Kenya eTA: $30 per person, single entry, applied for online at etakenya.go.ke before you fly.
How much does a safari in Kenya cost per person in 2027?

Every figure below is per person sharing a room, in US dollars, taken from the live product pages on our safari collection. A “from” price is the lowest departure, which is usually a green season date, so your dates can move the number. We’ve divided each price by the number of days so that a 3-day trip and an 11-day trip can sit in the same column.
| Safari | Style | Days | From (pp) | Per day |
| 5 Days Masai Mara, Nakuru and Naivasha book-a-seat | Book a Seat, budget camp | 5 | $1,000 | $200 |
| 4 Days Masai Mara and Nakuru book-a-seat | Book a Seat, mixed | 4 | $830 | $208 |
| 6 Days Masai Mara, Nakuru, Naivasha and Amboseli book-a-seat | Book a Seat, budget camp | 6 | $1,235 | $206 |
| 3 Days Masai Mara book-a-seat, Osero Camp | Book a Seat, budget camp | 3 | $650 to $690 | $217 to $230 |
| 6-Day Amboseli, Nakuru and Masai Mara, Sopa Lodges | Mid-range lodge | 6 | $1,670 | $278 |
| 11 Days Kenya Family Safari, Samburu to Amboseli | Luxury lodge, family | 11 | $3,185 | $290 |
| 4 Days Masai Mara, Mara Elatia Camp | Mara Triangle | 4 | $1,440 | $360 |
| 11 Days Kenya Luxury Safari, Samburu to Amboseli | Luxury lodge | 11 | $4,625 | $420 |
| 4 Days Masai Mara Road Safari, Mtito Safari Camp | Mid-range lodge | 4 | $1,800 | $450 |
| 6 Days Flying Safari, Naivasha and Masai Mara | Luxury lodge, flying | 6 | $2,490 | $415 |
| 3 Days Mara Fly-In, Mara Serena Safari Lodge | Luxury lodge, flying | 3 | $1,515 | $505 |
| 4 Days Masai Mara Luxury, Enkakenya Camp | Luxury lodge | 4 | $2,409 | $602 |
| 4 Days Flying Amboseli, Kitirua Plains Lodge | Luxury lodge, flying | 4 | $2,450 | $613 |
| 5 Days Flying Safari, Mara North Conservancy | Luxury lodge, flying | 5 | $4,000 | $800 |
| 6 Days Flying Amboseli and Masai Mara | 5-star lodge, flying | 6 | $5,050 | $842 |
| 4 Days Masai Mara Eco Safari, Emboo River Camp | Eco, luxury | 4 | $4,000 | $1,000 |
| 12 Days Wild Frontiers of Northern Kenya | Luxury lodge | 12 | $12,400 | $1,033 |
Three bands fall out of the table. Shared book a seat departures sit at $200 to $230 a day. Mid-range road safaris cluster between $280 and $450. Everything with a flight, a conservancy camp or a five-star lodge starts at $415 and climbs past $1,000. The $650 Osero Camp price is the early bird rate on our April and May 2027 departures, while the collection page lists the same trip from $690.
Divide any Kenya safari price by the number of days. Under $200 a day, something is missing from the quote.
How much does a 7-day Kenya safari cost per person?

| QUICK ANSWER | How much does a 7-day Kenya safari cost? A 7-day Kenya safari costs about $1,400 to $1,550 per person on a shared group departure, $1,950 to $3,150 mid-range and $2,900 to $7,200 at luxury level. These are estimates scaled from our live per-day rates, sharing a room, with park fees included. International flights are extra. |
Seven days is the most searched trip length and the one operator’s price most loosely. Our only live 7-day Kenya departure is the Rift Valley Women Only Safari from Naivasha to the Masai Mara, which starts at $2,000 per person. For every other style the honest method is to take the per-day rate from the table and multiply. The result is an estimate, not a quote, because camps and dates move it.
| Tier | Per-day basis | 7-day estimate (pp) |
| Shared book a seat departure | $200 to $220 | $1,400 to $1,550 |
| Mid-range road safari | $280 to $450 | $1,950 to $3,150 |
| Luxury and flying | $415 to $1,033 | $2,900 to $7,200 |
Seven days also changes what you should buy. On a 3-day trip the road takes a third of your time. Across seven days it takes about a seventh, and the per-day price eases. Our 6-day group safari works out at $206 a day against $217 for the 3-day one.
What drives the Kenya safari cost?

Park and conservancy fees
Park Fees are the biggest fixed cost and the one most often hidden. In the Masai Mara a non-resident adult pays $100 a day in January to June and $200 a day in July to December. Three days of game drives in high season is $600 in gate fees before a bed has been paid for. Children aged 9 to 17 pay $50. Conservancies such as Mara North and Siana charge their own fees on top, usually folded into the camp rate. Always ask which one your quote uses.
Where you sleep
Accommodation is where the per-day figure splits. Osero Camp in the Siana Conservancy is a tented budget camp and sits at about $217 a day. Mara Elatia Camp in the Mara Triangle is $360. Enkakenya Camp on the Olare Orok River is $602 and Emboo River Camp is $1,000. Same reserve, same animals, a fivefold spread in price.
Road or flying

Nairobi to the Siana Conservancy is 225 to 250 kilometres and takes four to five hours each way. A flight from Wilson Airport replaces that with a short hop and adds the flight to the price. Our rule is blunt: fly if you have fewer than five days, drive if you have more. Under five days the road eats too much of the trip. Over five days the money is better spent on a better camp.
Private vehicle or shared
A private vehicle means your own Land Cruiser and driver-guide and you set the pace. A book-a-seat departure puts you in a shared vehicle capped at six guests with a guaranteed window seat. We cover the trade-offs in our private vs group safari guide, so we won’t repeat them here. The price effect is what matters: one or two travellers pay less on a group departure and a party of four to six splits a private vehicle across more people.
Group size and single supplements
Camps price rooms for two. Solo travellers usually pay a single supplement. On a group departure you can share a tent with another traveller of the same gender and avoid it, subject to availability.
The calendar
July to October is migration season and priced like it. January to June halves the Masai Mara fee. We break the year down month by month further down.
What does a budget or group-departure safari cost, and what do you give up?

| QUICK ANSWER | Is a group or private safari cheaper in Kenya? A group safari is cheaper per person for one or two travellers. Our shared departures run about $200 to $220 a day against $280 and up for private road safaris. A private vehicle starts to compete once four to six people split it, because the vehicle and guide cost is shared. |
Our book-a-seat range runs from $650 for 3 days at Osero Camp to $1,235 for 6 days across the Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and Amboseli. On the Osero departure the price covers a shared 4×4 transfer from Nairobi, an English-speaking driver-guide, two nights full board and all Masai Mara and Siana Conservancy game drives with entrance and conservancy fees. It also covers a picnic lunch on the full game drive day, bottled water on drives and taxes.
What you give up
- Fixed dates. Departures are scheduled. Our April and May 2027 Osero departures run on Tuesdays.
- Control of the day. The vehicle moves as one group, so you can’t stay an hour longer with a leopard.
- Camp grade. Osero is a tented budget camp. It is clean and has en-suite tents but it is not a conservancy lodge.
- Long road days. Four to five hours each way from Nairobi to Siana, with a Rift Valley viewpoint stop.
What you shouldn’t give up is vehicle space. A vehicle capped at six with a window seat for every guest is the standard to hold any group operator to. Cheap group trips that pack a minibus are cheap for a reason.
A group safari is the right call for solo travellers and couples who care about the game drives more than the vehicle.
What does a mid-range private safari cost?
Mid-range is where most first-time Kenya safaris land, at roughly $280 to $450 per person per day. Our mid-range safaris show the spread:
- 6-Day Sopa Lodges safari (Amboseli, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara): $1,670, or $278 a day.
- 4 Days Masai Mara at Mara Elatia Camp in the Mara Triangle: $1,440, or $360 a day.
- 11 Days Kenya Luxury Safari, Samburu to Amboseli: $4,625, or $420 a day.
- 4 Days Masai Mara Road Safari at Mtito Safari Camp: $1,800, or $450 a day.
Our pick for a first-timer with about $1,500 is Mara Elatia. It puts you in the Mara Triangle on the western side of the reserve for a price that sits between a group departure and a conservancy camp. The Mtito road safari costs more per day because you are paying for a mid-range camp with a private vehicle on a short itinerary. The longer 11-day trips look cheaper per day because the cost of the Nairobi transfers is spread over more nights.
| EXPERT NOTE | The fastest way to compare two Kenya safari quotes is to strip both down to the same four lines: park fees, accommodation, transport and extras. If a quote can’t show those separately it can’t be compared, and you should ask for it again before you pay a deposit. Kibara Mugo, Safari Writer and East Africa Specialist |
What does a luxury or flying safari cost?

Luxury and flying safaris range from $415 to $1,033 per person per day, and the spread is wide because the products are different. The cheapest flying option is the 6-Day Naivasha and Masai Mara trip at $2,490, which spends only part of the week in a flying-grade camp. The most expensive is the 12-Day Northern Kenya safari at $12,400, covering Aberdare, Samburu, Lewa, Solio Ranch, Ol Pejeta and Meru.
- 3 Days Mara Fly-In, Mara Serena Safari Lodge: $1,515, or $505 a day.
- 4 Days Flying Amboseli, Kitirua Plains Lodge: $2,450, or $613 a day.
- 5 Days Flying Safari, Royal Mara Safari Lodge in Mara North Conservancy: $4,000, or $800 a day.
- 6 Days Flying Amboseli and Masai Mara: $5,050, or $842 a day.
- 4 Days Eco Safari, Emboo River Camp: $4,000, or $1,000 a day.
What does the extra money buy? Mostly space and access. Conservancies such as Mara North cap the number of beds and vehicles, so you share fewer sightings. Flights return the hours the road would take. The camps are smaller and the guiding is more flexible. Our luxury safaris page lists the full set. Flying safaris price the flights into the package, so check the included list on each product page.
Our opinion: a flying safari is worth it for a short trip in the Mara. Beyond five days, spend the extra on a conservancy camp rather than on air time. One practical point from Wilson Airport: pack in a soft bag. Hard suitcases are turned away and bag weight limits are strict.
Fly if you have fewer than five days. Drive if you have more.
What is included in a Kenya safari price, and what is usually not?
| QUICK ANSWER | What is included in a Kenya safari price? A Kenya safari price usually includes accommodation, meals as stated, a driver-guide, vehicle transfers, game drives and taxes. Park fees are included by some operators and charged separately by others. Flights, visas, insurance, tips and drinks are almost always extra. Ask for park fees as their own line. |
Our Osero Camp book-a-seat page shows how a clear inclusions list reads. We use it as a template for everything we quote.
Usually included
- Road transfers in a 4×4 safari vehicle, Nairobi to the Masai Mara and back.
- A professional English-speaking driver-guide.
- Full board accommodation for the nights stated.
- All Masai Mara National Reserve and Siana Conservancy game drives with entrance and conservancy fees.
- A picnic lunch on the full game drive day and bottled water on drives.
- Taxes and VAT.
Usually not included
- International flights and visa or eTA fees.
- Travel insurance. Read our travel insurance guide before you buy.
- Tips and gratuities. Our tipping guide has the figures.
- Hot air balloon safari, an optional upgrade.
- Alcohol and premium drinks beyond camp inclusions.
- Laundry, souvenirs and personal items.
- Nights in Nairobi before the first day of the safari.
The line that decides most comparisons is park fees. A quote that leaves them out can look $300 to $600 cheaper on a three-day Mara safari and be dearer by the time you reach the gate. Ask for fees in your own category, in writing, as a separate line.
What do park fees cost in 2027?

Park fees are charged per person per day and rise with the park tier. The Kenya Wildlife Service tariff in force since 1st October 2025 sets the KWS figures. Narok County sets the Masai Mara fee.
| Park or reserve | Adult (non-resident) | Child | Notes |
| Masai Mara National Reserve | $100 (Jan to Jun) or $200 (Jul to Dec) | $50 (ages 9 to 17) | Ticket valid 12 hours. Narok County. |
| Amboseli National Park | $90 | $45 | Premium tier. Valid 24 hours. |
| Lake Nakuru National Park | $90 | $45 | Premium tier. Valid 24 hours. |
| Nairobi National Park | $80 | $40 | KWS urban park. |
| Samburu National Reserve | $85 | $50 | County managed. |
Two details catch people. The Masai Mara ticket expires after 12 hours, so a dawn start and a late return can need two days of fees. Fees also change, so confirm every figure against the current tariff when you book.
| EXPERT NOTE | Because the Masai Mara ticket runs for 12 hours, a good guide plans the full-day drive around that clock. That is why the full-day drive with a picnic lunch in the bush works so well. One ticket buys the best light at both ends of the day. Nicholas Wangithi, Director & Founder |
When is a Kenya safari cheapest, and how much do you save?

| QUICK ANSWER | When is a Kenya safari cheapest? A Kenya safari is cheapest from January to June, and the lowest rates fall in April and May during the long rains. The Masai Mara park fee halves from $200 to $100 per adult per day. On a three-day trip that saves $300 per adult before any camp discount. |
The saving has two sources. The first is the fee. Non-resident adults pay half in the Masai Mara from January to June, and that is fixed. The second is the camp rate, which falls in the long rains because there are fewer guests. We’ve priced our April and May 2027 Osero departures at $650 each, the early bird rate for the weeks before the July to October migration window.
What do you give up? Some roads turn muddy and a few camps close for maintenance in April and May, so confirm that your camp is open. You also give up the Mara River crossings, which peak in August and September. If crossings are your reason for going, don’t chase the discount. If you want lions, elephants and empty roads, the green season is the best value in Kenya.
If your dates are flexible at all, go in the first half of the year. The fee halves and the vehicles thin out.
How the time of year can affect the cost of a Kenya safari
| Months | What happens | Cost pressure |
| January to February | Dry and warm. Masai Mara fee is $100. | Low to moderate |
| March to May | Long rains. Fewest visitors. Fee is $100. | Lowest of the year |
| June | Last month of the $100 fee. Roads drying. | Moderate |
| July to October | Great Migration and Mara River crossings. Fee is $200. | Highest |
| November | Short rains begin. Fee is $200. | Moderate |
| December | Festive season demand. Fee is $200. | High |
Migration timing is a peak-price window, not a guarantee. Crossings are heaviest in August and September, with July to October the broad season. Book 6 to 12 months ahead for the best-placed camps in that window. Our set departures cap at six guests and close when full, so the dates you want can go first.
How many days do you need for your budget, and how do you get more for less?
Three days is the minimum for the Masai Mara and it is a short trip, because the road takes two of them. Five to seven days is where the value sits. Per-day prices fall slightly as trips get longer, and you reach more than one ecosystem. Our 6-day group safari works out at $206 a day, the 11-day family trip at $290 and the 3-day Mara trip at $217 or more.
Here is how to stretch a budget without wrecking the trip:
- Fewer parks, more nights. Four nights in one place beats six nights in three. Every move is a drive day and a fresh set of fees.
- Drive, don’t fly, once you have five days or more.
- Travel January to June for the halved Masai Mara fee.
- Take a group departure if you are one or two people.
- Split a private vehicle across four to six people if you travel with family or friends.
- Use early bird dates. Our April and May 2027 Osero departures carry the $650 price.
- Compare per-day cost, not trip cost, and ask for park fees as a separate line.
How much does a Kenya safari cost for a family of four?

| QUICK ANSWER | How much does a Kenya safari cost for a family of four? A Kenya safari for a family of four costs about $2,600 for three days on a group departure and $5,760 for four days at Mara Elatia, using adult rates. Our 11-day family safari is $3,185 per person. Children usually pay less, so ask for child rates before you budget. |
Multiply the adult price by four for a ceiling, then ask for child pricing. On our live prices that gives about $2,600 for the 3-day Osero trip, $4,940 for the 6-day group safari and $5,760 for the 4-day Mara Elatia trip. The 11 Days Kenya Family Safari at $3,185 per person comes to $12,740 at adult rates. Our family safaris page lists the full set.
Park fees are where families gain. Take two adults and two children aged 9 to 17 on three days in the Masai Mara. In high season the gate fees are $1,500 in total. From January to June they are $900, a saving of $600 on fees alone. Children also pay about half the adult fee in Amboseli and Lake Nakuru.
How much does a Nairobi safari cost?

Nairobi is the cheapest safari in Kenya because nobody needs a flight or a night in a camp. The Nairobi National Park fee is $80 for a non-resident adult and $40 for a child. Our Half-Day Nairobi National Park Game Drive is the cheapest safari on our site at $25 per person. The full Nairobi day trip with the national park, the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage and the Giraffe Centre is from $295 per person.
If you are short of time, other day trips from Nairobi sit in a similar band. The Amboseli day trip is from $199, the Lake Naivasha Day trip with Crescent Island and Hell’s Gate is from $215 and the Kiambethu Tea Farm in Limuru is from $60. A day trip is not a safari in the sense of a night under canvas, but Nairobi National Park puts lions within sight of the city skyline and it is excellent value.
How do you do a cheap Kenya safari that is still good?
A good budget safari is not the lowest price. It is a licensed operator, a capped vehicle and a quote that shows its fees. Here is what has to sit inside the $200 a day:
- A KATO and TRA registered operator with a physical office you can visit.
- Park and conservancy fees stated as included, or shown as a separate line.
- A vehicle capped at six guests with a window seat for everyone.
- Full board and bottled water on drives.
- An English-speaking driver-guide who is named before you travel.
Be suspicious of any Masai Mara safari advertised at $100 to $150 a day in high season. The gate fee alone is $200. The arithmetic doesn’t close unless fees are excluded, the camp is outside the reserve or the vehicle is overloaded. Our private vs group guide explains how to judge the vehicle.
| EXPERT NOTE | We build every quote with park fees on their own line, in US dollars and per person sharing. That way the number you compare is the number you pay. A flexible deposit secures any departure, and you see the itinerary and price before you are asked to commit. Hellen Asiko, Director & Guest Experience Curator |
How do you tip on a Kenya safari?

Budget for tips from the start because they are a real line in the cost of a safari. Our baseline for a driver-guide is $15 per person per day, within a range of $10 to $20, and it is at your discretion. On a 7-day safari that is about $105 per person for your guide. The minimum tip for porters and lodge staff is KES 200. The full breakdown by role and trip length is in our Kenya safari tipping guide.
What additional costs should you plan for?
- Kenya eTA: $30 per person for a single entry, applied for online at etakenya.go.ke before you fly.
- International flights into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.
- Travel insurance. See our Kenya safari travel insurance guide.
- Hot air balloon safari over the Masai Mara: $450 to $600 per person.
- Drinks and premium extras beyond what camps include.
- Excess baggage on flying safaris, where soft bags and tight weight limits apply.
- Village or community visits, typically $20 to $50 per person depending on the host.
- A night in Nairobi before or after the safari, which is not in most quotes.
- Tips, covered above.
A realistic plan keeps a buffer for these. Our Osero page lists them plainly and every quote we send does too, because the point of knowing the cost of a safari is not being surprised by it.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a Kenya safari cost in 2027?
A realistic 2027 budget is about $650 for a 3-day group trip, $1,235 for six days on a group departure and from $2,450 for a short flying safari. Private mid-range trips run $1,440 to $1,800 for four days. Prices are per person sharing and we checked them on 22 October 2026.
Is a Kenya safari cheaper in the green season?
Yes, a Kenya safari is cheaper from January to June, with April and May the lowest. The Masai Mara fee halves from $200 to $100 per adult per day and camps cut their rates. The trade-off is fewer river crossings and the occasional muddy road.
Is there a cheap Kenya safari that is still good?
Yes, a cheap Kenya safari can be good if the operator is licensed and the vehicle is capped. Our shared departures start at about $200 a day with fees included. Avoid any high-season Mara price near $100 a day, because the gate fee alone is $200.
What is included in a Kenya safari price?
Most quotes include accommodation, meals as stated, a driver-guide, transfers, game drives and taxes. Park fees vary by operator, so check. Flights, the $30 eTA, insurance, tips, drinks and balloon rides are normally extra.
Is Kenya cheaper than Tanzania for a safari?
Kenya is usually cheaper at the budget end. Our 5-Day Tanzania Budget Safari to the Serengeti, Tarangire and Ngorongoro is from $1,500, or $300 a day. Our Kenya group departures run $200 to $230 a day. Tanzania park fees are also higher, so the gap widens when you add them.
Do I pay park fees on top of the safari price?
It depends on the operator, so ask. On our Osero Camp book-a-seat safari the price already includes the Masai Mara and Siana Conservancy entrance and conservancy fees. Other quotes list them separately, and that can add $300 to $600 on a three-day Mara trip.
How early should I book a Kenya safari?
Book six to twelve months ahead if you want the migration season from July to October. Set departures cap at six guests and close once full. A flexible deposit secures a departure, and January to June dates are easier to get at short notice.
Is a Kenya safari worth the money?
Yes, if you buy by the day and not by the headline. At $200 to $450 a day you get full board, a driver-guide and several game drives, in one of the best wildlife areas in Africa. The mistake is paying for a flight or a camp grade you won’t use.
