Overview

About this property

A tented gem on a private conservancy — intimate luxury where the wild begins at your deck.

Overview

Royal Mara Safari Lodge is an exclusive luxury tented lodge located along the Mara River in the 70,000-acre Mara North Conservancy. Set beside the Hippo Bend Lagoon, the lodge combines elegant riverfront accommodation with exceptional wildlife viewing, offering guests a private and immersive Masai Mara safari experience.

About the Property

Royal Mara Safari Lodge is designed around the natural environment, with its luxury river suites raised on wooden decks overlooking the Mara River. Guests can watch hippos, elephants and other wildlife from the comfort of their private verandas.

The lodge’s position within Mara North Conservancy also provides access to a lower-density safari environment where guests can enjoy off-road game drives, walking safaris and night game drives.

Why Stay at Royal Mara?

Royal Mara is particularly attractive for travelers seeking privacy, luxury and close wildlife encounters. The riverfront location means wildlife viewing begins right at the lodge, while the conservancy setting allows for safari activities that are more restricted within the national reserve.

The lodge is also close to renowned wildlife locations including Leopard Gorge and important Mara River migration crossing areas.

Accommodation

Royal Mara Safari Lodge has eight spacious riverfront suites, each built on an elevated wooden deck with a private veranda overlooking the Mara River.

The suites combine the atmosphere of a luxury safari tent with the facilities of a high-end lodge, including en-suite bathrooms, comfortable beds, internal sitting areas and private outdoor spaces.

Room Types

  • River Suite – King: Spacious riverfront accommodation featuring a king-size four-poster bed, en-suite bathroom, internal sitting area and private veranda overlooking the Mara River.
  • River Suite – Twin: Similar in design to the king option but furnished with twin beds, making it suitable for friends or travelers sharing.

Each River Suite measures approximately 110 m², including the sleeping area, bathroom and large private veranda.

Dining Experience

Dining at Royal Mara focuses on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and contemporary international cuisine. Guests can enjoy meals beside the Mara River with views of resident hippos, on the open savannah or in the privacy of their tent terrace.

Special dining experiences include bush breakfasts, bush dinners, barbecues and private candlelit dinners, complemented by a selection of wines, spirits and creative cocktails.

Guests can encounter the Big Five, cheetahs, zebras, wildebeest, giraffes, hippos and numerous bird species. During the Great Wildebeest Migration, the lodge’s proximity to the Mara River provides opportunities to experience the dramatic movement of huge herds through the ecosystem.

Walking safaris provide an opportunity to learn about animal tracks, plants and the smaller details of the ecosystem, while night drives offer a different perspective on the conservancy’s nocturnal wildlife.
