Overview

About this safari

This itinerary extends the classic Masai Mara group safari with a third destination on the return leg: Lake Nakuru National Park, known for its rhino sanctuary, tree-climbing lions and dense shoreline birdlife. Two nights at Osero Camp in the Siana Conservancy come first, followed by a night at Ziwa Bush Lodge on the edge of Nakuru.

This itinerary runs on Afrikan Accent Adventures’ shared group model: a book-a-seat departure with a maximum of 6 guests per vehicle, so every seat is a guaranteed window seat, for the full four-day circuit.

Practical Information:

Physical Requirements

This is an easy safari with a long travel day at the start and a shorter one at the end. Game drives take place seated in a shared 4×4 safari vehicle, capped at 6 guests, typically for two to four hours per session. Road transfers total around eight to nine hours across the full itinerary, spread over three separate drives, with rest stops built in. No technical terrain or strenuous activity is involved.

Best Time to Visit

July through October is peak season for the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Masai Mara, with the heaviest Mara River crossing activity in August and September. Lake Nakuru National Park offers strong resident wildlife and birdlife year-round, so the Nakuru leg of this itinerary works equally well in any season.

Getting There

This itinerary is entirely road-based. The drive from Nairobi to the Siana Conservancy covers approximately 225 to 250 kilometres, around four to five hours, via Narok. The onward drive from the Mara to Lake Nakuru covers approximately 210 to 230 kilometres, around four to five hours. The return drive from Nakuru to Nairobi covers approximately 160 kilometres, around three hours. The same shared vehicle and driver-guide

Stop1

Nairobi to the Masai Mara (Siana Conservancy)

🍽 Lunch · Dinner

Depart Nairobi in the morning for the drive into the Great Rift Valley, stopping at the Rift Valley viewpoint for wide views over the valley floor. Continue on to the Siana Conservancy, arriving at Osero Camp in time for lunch and check-in. After lunch, head out on your first game drive in search of the Big Five, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, as the light softens over the plains. Return to camp at dusk for dinner and your first overnight on the Siana plains.

Full-Day Masai Mara National Reserve Game Drive

🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner

A full day of game drives inside the Masai Mara National Reserve, tracking the Big Five, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, alongside cheetah, hyena and large herds of plains game. Between July and October the day is built around the Great Wildebeest Migration and Mara River crossings; outside that window, guides focus on resident big cat sightings and the reserve’s year-round wildlife. A picnic lunch is taken out in the bush so the day stays in the field, with game drives continuing into the golden afternoon light before returning to camp at dusk for dinner and overnight.

Frequently asked questions

What should I pack for the safari?

Pack light, neutral-colored clothing (khaki, green, brown), comfortable closed-toe shoes, a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, and a camera with extra batteries. Evenings can be cool, so bring a light jacket.

What does "book-a-seat" mean on this group safari?

You reserve an individual seat rather than an entire vehicle. The group is capped at 6 guests per vehicle, so you're guaranteed a window seat and unobstructed game viewing across all five days.

When can we see the wildebeest migration on this itinerary?

The Great Wildebeest Migration Mara River crossings occur between July and October, with the heaviest activity in August and September, covered on Day 2 of this itinerary.

Can this be booked as a private safari instead?

Yes. This exact itinerary can also run privately on any date, with your own dedicated vehicle and driver-guide. Ask us for private rates.

Is single accommodation available for solo travelers?

Yes, for a single supplement at all three properties. Solo travelers can also choose to share a room with another same-gender traveler on the same departure to avoid the supplement, subject to availability.
