Overview

About this property

A tented gem on a private conservancy — intimate luxury where the wild begins at your deck.

Overview

Oilepo Amboseli Safari Lodge is a small, warmly run tented lodge with one killer advantage: it sits just 800 metres from Amboseli National Park’s Kimana gate, making it one of the very closest camps to the park — you can be at the barrier in five minutes and among the elephants moments later. Fairly new and impeccably kept, the lodge spreads a handful of luxury tents and family cottages across quiet plains facing Mount Kilimanjaro, with its own small waterhole in front of the main building where elephants, zebras, giraffes, warthogs and baboons wander in to drink. A near-perfect 4.9 guest rating tells the rest of the story: outstanding food, genuine hospitality and honest value.

About the Property

The camp blends contemporary comfort with authentic safari character — canvas-fronted tents under solid roofs, African-style thatch on the main buildings, and a beautiful outside deck for al fresco dining. The heart of camp overlooks the waterhole, so meals often come with wildlife viewing included, and evenings gather around a crackling bonfire under the stars for storytelling and stargazing. A swimming pool with sun loungers faces Kilimanjaro, and spa treatments are available for post-game-drive recovery. Oilepo also operates a sister property in Naivasha, handy for travellers doing a wider Rift Valley circuit.

Quick Facts

  • Just 800 m from Amboseli’s Kimana gate — about a 5-minute drive to the park
  • Intimate scale: around 7 luxury deluxe tents plus 2 family cottages (roughly 10–20 guests)
  • Own waterhole in front of camp visited by elephants, giraffes and zebras
  • Swimming pool with sun loungers and Kilimanjaro views
  • Eco-friendly build and operations
  • Bonfire deck and al fresco dining under the stars
  • Spa treatments available
  • ~238 km from Nairobi; 20-minute transfer from the Amboseli airstrip

Location

The lodge sits on the plains at Kimana on the south-eastern edge of Amboseli National Park, closer to the Kimana gate than virtually any other property — the access road is long and bumpy in true safari style, but the payoff is unbeatable early-gate access for sunrise game drives. Kilimanjaro rises to the south, visible from the tents’ terraces on clear mornings and evenings, and the Kimana Wildlife Sanctuary and Maasai villages are nearby. Nairobi is about 238 km (roughly 4 hours) by road via Emali, and flights from Wilson Airport reach the Amboseli airstrip in 45–50 minutes with a 20-minute road transfer to camp.

Accommodation

The deluxe safari tents are spacious canvas-fronted structures with solid roofs and solid-built bathrooms, each with comfortable beds under mosquito nets, an en-suite with hot shower, a private terrace facing Kilimanjaro, tea/coffee station, mini-fridge, fan, hairdryer and safe. The two family cottages add a second bedroom, kitchen area, indoor and outdoor showers and generous space for four or more — ideal for families who want their own base. Housekeeping is daily and the whole camp is kept spotless.

Dining

The spacious restaurant in the main building serves buffet breakfasts and freshly prepared lunches and dinners spanning Kenyan and international dishes — guests consistently call the food plentiful and delicious. Meals can be taken in the dining room overlooking the waterhole and mountain, on the outside deck, or as bush breakfasts and starlit dinners out on the plains; the bar keeps a good range of drinks for sundowners.

Facilities

Swimming pool with sun loungers and Kilimanjaro views, restaurant and bar, outside dining deck, campfire/bonfire area, waterhole viewing, spa treatments, gift shop, Wi-Fi, laundry service, daily housekeeping, secure parking and game-drive arrangements. The camp is wheelchair-accessible in its main areas.

Why Choose Oilepo Amboseli

  • Closest-to-the-gate convenience: 800 m from Kimana gate means first light in the park while others are still driving
  • A near-perfect 4.9 guest rating — remarkable consistency for food, cleanliness and service
  • Wildlife at the waterhole right in front of the restaurant — breakfast with elephants is a real possibility
  • Genuine value: boutique tented comfort from around US$200 a night, well below big-name camps
  • Family cottages that actually work for families — two bedrooms, kitchen space and outdoor showers
  • Kilimanjaro views from your private tent terrace
  • Eco-friendly ethos and warm, personal Maasai-community hospitality
  • Sister lodge in Naivasha for an easy two-stop Kenyan itinerary
