Lake Nakuru National Park is internationally renowned as one of Africa's leading rhino conservation areas and one of Kenya's premier safari destinations. The park is famous for its thriving populations of endangered black and white rhinoceroses, the rare Rothschild's giraffe, tree-climbing lions, spectacular Great Rift Valley scenery and more than 450 bird species. Although once famous for millions of flamingos, today the park continues to offer exceptional birdwatching alongside outstanding wildlife viewing.

Lake Nakuru National Park is located in Nakuru County within Kenya's Great Rift Valley, approximately 160 kilometres (100 miles) northwest of Nairobi. Its convenient location makes it one of Kenya's most popular safari destinations and an excellent stop when travelling to the Masai Mara or Lake Naivasha.

The park is home to over 70 mammal species, including black rhinos, white rhinos, lions, leopards, buffaloes, Rothschild's giraffes, zebras, waterbucks, impalas, hyenas, warthogs, olive baboons, vervet monkeys and numerous antelope species. It is one of the best places in Kenya to see rhinos in the wild.

Lake Nakuru National Park is home to four of Africa's Big Five lion, leopard, buffalo and rhinoceros. Elephants are not found within the park, so visitors typically combine Lake Nakuru with destinations such as the Masai Mara, Amboseli, or Tsavo to complete a Big Five safari.

Yes. Flamingos still visit Lake Nakuru, although their numbers vary depending on water levels, algae availability, and seasonal conditions. While the enormous flocks seen decades ago are less predictable today, visitors can still enjoy sightings of both Greater and Lesser Flamingos, together with pelicans, herons, cormorants, fish eagles and many other waterbirds.

Lake Nakuru can be visited throughout the year. The dry seasons from June to October and January to March provide excellent wildlife viewing, pleasant weather and ideal photography conditions. The green season (April–May and November) offers lush landscapes, fewer tourists, lower accommodation rates and outstanding birdwatching opportunities.

Most visitors spend one or two nights at Lake Nakuru National Park. This allows sufficient time for several game drives, visits to scenic viewpoints, wildlife photography, birdwatching and exploring attractions such as Baboon Cliff, Lion Hill and Makalia Falls. The park is also commonly combined with Lake Naivasha and the Masai Mara.
