Budget Safari3 Days Flying Luxury Amboseli Safari| Kitirua Plains Lodge
About this safari
Amboseli Fly-In Luxury Safari to Kitirua Plains Lodge Under Mount Kilimanjaro
This 3 day flying luxury Amboseli safari is built around a two night stay at Kitirua Plains Lodge, one of the newest additions to Kenya’s safari scene. The lodge sits on a private 128 acre concession adjoining Amboseli National Park, on a natural viewing corridor between two low hills where elephant herds move freely below a near constant backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Flying in from Nairobi keeps the trip short and effortless, so more of your time goes toward game drives rather than the road.
Amboseli is best known for its enormous elephant herds, some numbering close to a hundred animals, including a handful of the region’s famous big tuskers. The park’s mix of swamp, acacia woodland and open savanna, framed by Africa’s tallest mountain, makes it one of the most photogenic wildlife destinations in East Africa. Because Kitirua sits on a private concession rather than inside the park boundary, guests get access to night drives and off park experiences that day visitors to Amboseli never see. This itinerary suits couples, honeymooners, families and travelers short on time who still want a full, high end safari experience.
Key Highlights:
- Great elephant herds at close range
- Uninterrupted Mount Kilimanjaro views from every suite
- Private concession night drives, not permitted inside the national park
- Maasai cultural visits
- Fly-in convenience with no long road transfers
- Twice daily game drives across Amboseli National Park
- Solar powered, architecturally striking lodge design
- Optional hot air balloon flight over Amboseli
Practical Information:
Physical Requirements
This is an easy, low effort safari. Game drives take place seated in an open 4×4 vehicle for two to three hours at a time, with no walking required. The flying format removes the long road transfers common on overland safaris, making this a comfortable option for travelers with limited time or mobility concerns.
Best Time to Visit
June through October offers the clearest Kilimanjaro views and strong game viewing as wildlife concentrates around Amboseli’s swamps in the dry season. January through March also delivers excellent elephant sightings with fewer crowds. Kilimanjaro’s summit is most visible in the early morning and late afternoon, often disappearing behind cloud during the heat of midday.
What to Bring
Light aircraft flights restrict luggage to around 15 to 20 kilograms per person in a soft sided bag, including hand luggage, so pack accordingly. Bring neutral colored, lightweight clothing, a warm layer for early morning game drives and night drives, sun protection, a wide brimmed hat and comfortable closed shoes. Binoculars and a camera with a long lens are worthwhile given the open sightlines across the plains toward Kilimanjaro.

Day1
Nairobi to Amboseli by Air
🍽 Lunch · Dinner 🏕 Kitirua Plains Lodge Amboseli | A&K Sanctuary
Nairobi to Amboseli by Air
Your flying safari begins with a short domestic flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to Amboseli Airstrip, a journey of around 30 minutes that skips the long road transfer used by most Amboseli itineraries. On arrival, you’re met by your guide for the 40 minute drive to Kitirua Plains Lodge, set on a private concession bordering Amboseli National Park. The moment the land opens up between two low hills, Mount Kilimanjaro appears on the horizon, snow capped summit and all, setting the tone for the days ahead.
Settle into your suite, each one positioned so Kilimanjaro is visible from the bed, and enjoy lunch at the lodge. The property was built around an existing wildlife corridor rather than against it, so elephant herds often pass within view of the dining area and pool. In the afternoon, head out on your first game drive into Amboseli National Park, where swamps, acacia woodland and open plains support some of the largest elephant herds in East Africa. Return to the lodge for sundowners and a five course dinner under the stars.
Day2
Amboseli National Park - Full Day and Night Drive
🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner 🏕 Kitirua Plains Lodge Amboseli | A&K Sanctuary
Amboseli National Park - Full Day and Night Drive
Spend a full day exploring the diverse habitats of Amboseli National Park, from deep green marshes fed by underground streams from Kilimanjaro’s glaciers to dry savanna dotted with acacia trees. Morning game drives are timed for the cooler hours when elephant herds, lions, cheetahs and hyenas are most active. Between drives, take advantage of the lodge’s wellness area, with a spa, an outdoor yoga deck, a gym and a pool that looks straight out over the plains toward the mountain.
In the afternoon, join a guided visit to a nearby Maasai community, learning about traditional pastoral life and the healthcare, education and clean water projects supported through the lodge’s philanthropy program. As evening falls, head out on a night drive across the private concession, an experience the adjoining national park itself does not permit. Spotlit game drives here often turn up nocturnal species rarely seen on standard daytime safaris, before returning to the lodge for dinner around the fire.
Day3
Final Game Drive and Fly Back to Nairobi
🍽 Breakfast
Final Game Drive and Fly Back to Nairobi
Wake early for one last game drive while the light is soft and Kilimanjaro is usually at its clearest, before the midday haze sets in. Return to the lodge for a leisurely breakfast, then transfer 40 minutes back to Amboseli Airstrip for your short flight to Nairobi.
Your 3 day flying luxury Amboseli safari ends with a return flight into Wilson Airport, connecting easily to onward domestic safaris or an international departure from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. In under three days, you’ll have covered elephant herds at close range, private concession night drives, Maasai cultural visits and some of the best mountain views of any safari lodge in Kenya.

What guests say about this safari

Google · May 2026We had an amazing experience with Afrikan Accent Adventures from start to finish. Everything was well taken care of before, during, and even after the trip. Hellen did a great job coordinating and making sure we got the most out of our limited time. Our guide, Nicholas, was fantastic—safe driver, always on time, super knowledgeable about wildlife, and gave great tips for spotting animals and taking photos. He also kept the trip fun and engaging the whole way. Thanks to the team, our first safari experience was truly unforgettable. We even saw the Big Five on the first day, which made the rest of the trip even more enjoyable! Highly recommended, and we’d love to go with them again!
