Most international travellers visiting Kenya require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before arrival. Applications are completed online and approvals are typically issued within a few days. Visitors should ensure their passport remains valid for at least six months beyond their intended travel dates and contains sufficient blank pages for immigration requirements.
Solio Ranch Conservancy lies at a high altitude of between 1,900 and 2,200 metres above sea level, significantly reducing the risk of malaria compared to lower-altitude safari destinations in Kenya. Travellers should still consult their healthcare provider regarding recommended vaccinations and travel health advice. A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate may be required for travellers arriving from countries where Yellow Fever is present.
Solio Ranch Conservancy is located approximately 190 kilometres north of Nairobi between Nyeri and Nanyuki. The conservancy can be reached by road in approximately 3 to 3.5 hours via the Nairobi–Nyeri highway. Scheduled and charter flights operate daily from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to nearby airstrips such as Nanyuki Airstrip, followed by a short transfer to the conservancy.
The official currency in Kenya is the Kenyan Shilling (KES), although most safari lodges and conservancies accept major international credit cards including Visa and Mastercard. US Dollars are widely accepted for tourism-related services, particularly notes issued after 2009. Mobile payment platforms such as M-Pesa are also commonly used throughout Kenya.
Solio enjoys a pleasant temperate climate throughout the year due to its high elevation and proximity to Mount Kenya. Daytime temperatures generally range between 16°C and 26°C, while mornings and evenings can be cool, especially between June and August. The conservancy experiences two rainy seasons, usually from March to May and again in November.
Kenya uses Type G electrical sockets, identical to those used in the United Kingdom. Electricity is supplied at 240 volts and 50Hz frequency. Most lodges provide reliable electricity and charging facilities for cameras, phones, drones, and laptops. International adapters are often available upon request.
