Elephant Gorge Camp Kenya | Luxury Safari Camp in Amboseli
About this property
A tented gem on a private conservancy — intimate luxury where the wild begins at your deck.
Overview
Elephant Gorge Camp is one of the Amboseli ecosystem’s most intimate hideaways: an eco-luxury camp of themed suites tucked into a thicket of “wait-a-bit” acacias in a private conservancy on the park’s edge. The camp is built around a natural rock formation beside an active waterhole where elephants and other game come to drink and bathe — often watched by guests from the lounge, pool or their own veranda. With space for barely a dozen guests at a time, sweeping views of Kilimanjaro on one side and the Amboseli plains on the other, it delivers the exclusivity of a private safari at a 4.8 guest rating.
About the Property
The heart of the camp is a lavish open lounge wrapped around the rock outcrop, overlooking the waterhole, with a spectacular swimming pool sharing the same view. Accommodation began as five individually themed suites — The Artist, The Hunter, The Adventurer, The Bird Watcher and The Moran — each styled around its namesake with natural materials and safari elegance, and the camp has since added five new suites and a two-bedroom family villa, the newer units each featuring a private plunge pool. Eco-conscious design runs throughout, and the kitchen is supplied by the camp’s own organic vegetable garden, with chefs who happily tailor menus to dietary needs.

Location
The camp sits within the community-owned conservancies of the Kimana Group Ranch (ALOCA), a critical wildlife corridor between Amboseli, Chyulu and Tsavo where elephants — including big tuskers — move freely. Amboseli National Park’s Kimana gate is roughly a 20–25 minute drive, close enough for full days among the park’s famous herds, while the conservancy setting allows activities the park doesn’t: guided bush walks, off-the-beaten-track conservancy drives and sundowners in privacy. Nairobi is about 3.5–4 hours by road; daily flights from Wilson Airport serve the Amboseli airstrip (~35 km / about an hour away), and private charters can land closer at the Kimana Sanctuary airfield.
Accommodation
Each suite is a spacious, individually themed residence with a king or twin beds, a lounge area, and a private veranda facing the savanna and Kilimanjaro. Bathrooms are a signature indulgence — expansive, with soaking bathtubs, double vanities, indoor showers and outdoor showers under the sky. The five newer suites add private plunge pools, and the two-bedroom family villa (also with plunge pool) gives families or two couples a private base. Extra beds can be added for children, and wildlife viewing continues from the room decks.
Dining
Dining is gourmet and garden-to-table: chefs build menus around vegetables plucked fresh from the camp’s own organic garden and quality local ingredients, adapting readily to dietary requirements. Meals move around the property — the elegant dining area, the lounge terrace above the waterhole, bush breakfasts and lantern-lit outdoor dinners that guests consistently single out as a highlight.
Facilities
Swimming pool overlooking the waterhole, private plunge pools (new suites and villa), open lounge built around the natural rock formation, dining area and bar, organic vegetable garden, viewing decks, Wi-Fi, laundry service, guided activities team, and transfers/game-drive arrangements. The camp’s small scale means facilities are effectively private.
