Flying Safari4 Days Masai Mara Eco Safari | Emboo River Camp
About this safari
Three nights on the Talek River at Kenya’s first fully electric safari camp, with silent, zero-emission game drives, farm-to-fork dining and a genuinely carbon-conscious footprint.
Emboo River Camp is Kenya’s first camp with a full fleet of electric safari vehicles, running converted, solar-charged Land Rovers and Land Cruisers that move through the bush in near silence. The wildlife notices the difference: without engine noise, animals behave more naturally and vehicles can sit closer, for longer, without disturbing a sighting. The camp itself runs entirely on solar power, grows much of its own food in a vertical hydroponic garden, and recycles its wastewater through a natural reed-bed system, all without giving up the comforts of a proper safari camp: nine river-facing suites, a pool overlooking the Talek River, and a spa.
This itinerary is built for travellers who want their safari to match their values without compromising on wildlife time: three full nights on the Talek River, two full days of electric game drives, and a close look at what a genuinely low-impact safari camp looks like in practice.

Practical Information:
Physical Requirements
This is an easy safari with one long travel day at the start and end. Game drives take place seated in Emboo’s electric 4×4 vehicles, typically for two to four hours per session, with the same open-sided game-viewing configuration as a conventional safari vehicle. The road transfer between Nairobi and the Mara takes around five to six hours each way, with rest stops built in. No technical terrain or strenuous activity is involved. Emboo River Camp welcomes children aged 5 and older.
Best Time to Visit
July through October is peak season for the Great Wildebeest Migration, with river crossings possible at both the Talek and Mara rivers, both within easy reach of camp. Outside this window, the surrounding reserve holds strong resident wildlife year-round, including lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant and hippo regularly spotted from camp itself.
Getting There
This itinerary is entirely road-based. The drive from Nairobi to the Masai Mara covers approximately 270 to 290 kilometres and takes around five to six hours, running through the Rift Valley via Narok. Emboo River Camp sits inside the Masai Mara National Reserve on the Talek River. The same private vehicle and driver-guide handle the return transfer to Nairobi on Day 4, after which all game drives during the stay use the camp’s own electric fleet.

Day1
Road Transfer from Nairobi to the Masai Mara
🍽 Lunch · Dinner
Road Transfer from Nairobi to the Masai Mara
Depart Nairobi in the morning for the drive west into the Rift Valley and on toward the Masai Mara, approximately five to six hours with a stop en route. Arrive at Emboo River Camp in the early afternoon, set directly on the Talek River with a lounge flanked by the water on one side and open plains on the other. Settle in over a late lunch, then head out on your first game drive in one of Emboo’s electric Land Rovers, gliding through the bush in near silence as the golden afternoon light settles over the plains. Return to camp for sundowners and a farm-to-fork dinner using produce grown steps from the kitchen.
Day2
Full-Day Masai Mara National Reserve Electric Game Drive
🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner
Full-Day Masai Mara National Reserve Electric Game Drive
A full day exploring the Masai Mara National Reserve in Emboo’s electric vehicles, with year-round resident populations of lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo and hippo. Picnic lunch is taken in the bush. The absence of engine noise noticeably changes how wildlife responds to the vehicle, often allowing longer, closer sightings than a conventional diesel game drive. In the afternoon, an optional guided visit to the camp’s hydroponic garden and solar system offers a look at how the sustainability systems actually work.
Day3
Talek and Mara River Game Drive
🍽 Breakfast · Lunch · Dinner
Talek and Mara River Game Drive
The second full day focuses on the river systems either side of camp: the Talek River directly in front of Emboo, and the wider Mara River further into the reserve. Between July and October, this positioning gives strong access to Great Wildebeest Migration crossing points on both rivers. Outside this window, the riverine forest and open plains produce consistent big cat and elephant sightings year-round. An optional guided bush walk with Mara Elephant Project rangers is available in the late afternoon.
Day4
Final Morning Drive and Return to Nairobi
🍽 Breakfast · Lunch
Final Morning Drive and Return to Nairobi
A final early electric game drive while the light is best and predators are most active, then return to camp for breakfast and check-out. Depart for the road transfer back to Nairobi, approximately five to six hours. We arrange onward airport transfers according to your flight time.

TripAdvisor · June 2026Amazing safari experience Great week on safari …. An exclusive experience with one to one tour with Mike. He was great teaching us new things about many of the animals. We have seen the Big 5 many times, a truly life changing experience. Mikes knowledge of the parks was amazing 🤩 We have seen some brilliant views over the week and had lots of laughs with Mike. The lodges we have stayed in along the way have all been great and very welcoming. We would definitely recommend and will be returning but would book direct next time.
Frequently asked questions
What makes Emboo River Camp’s game drives different from a standard Masai Mara safari?
Emboo operates Kenya’s first full fleet of electric safari vehicles, converted from Land Rovers and Land Cruisers and charged entirely by the camp’s solar array. Without engine noise, wildlife tends to behave more naturally around the vehicle, which often means longer and closer sightings than a conventional diesel game drive.
Is Emboo River Camp suitable for families?
Yes, with a minimum age of 5 years. The camp has nine suites including a family room, a pool overlooking the Talek River, and activities such as garden tours and Maasai cultural visits that work well for children old enough to join full-day game drives.
How is Emboo River Camp actually sustainable, beyond the electric vehicles?
The camp runs entirely on solar power, grows a significant portion of its own food in a vertical hydroponic garden, and recycles all wastewater through a natural reed-bed and lagoon system rather than discharging it. It is a certified B Corporation with a strong focus on employing and training female Maasai guides.
When can we see the wildebeest migration on this itinerary?
The Great Wildebeest Migration Mara River and Talek River crossings occur between July and October, with the heaviest activity in August and September. Emboo’s position between both rivers gives access to crossing points on either side during this window.
Is the road transfer to Emboo River Camp long?
The drive from Nairobi to the Masai Mara covers approximately 270 to 290 kilometres and takes around five to six hours each way, running through the Rift Valley via Narok. We build in a rest stop on both the outbound and return legs.
